Israeli flag-carrier El Al has ordered four Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, for which the airline had recently stated it was in talks.

The 279-seat aircraft will be equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines.

In a statement to the Tel Aviv stock exchange the airline says it values the agreement at $540 million.

Three of the jets will be delivered in 2012 – in January, April and November – and the other in January 2013.

El Al had stated last week that it was in talks to acquire the aircraft. It has the option to convert them to 348-seat Boeing 777-300ERs.
