Italian investigators have opened an inquiry after an Alitalia Airbus A320 suffered a tail-strike on departure from Milan Malpensa.

The aircraft sustained the strike during take-off from runway 35R, says the Italian accident investigation authority ANSV.

ANSV adds that the crew aborted the departure and returned to the parking position.

It identifies the twinjet involved as EI-DTB, which Flight Fleets Analyzer lists as a leased 2009 airframe powered by CFM International CFM56 engines.

While the inquiry has classified the event as "serious", it has not detailed the extent of damage to the aircraft or the specific circumstances which led to the event.
