Japan Airlines (JAL) has just signed a 10-year contract with SR Technics, which will be providing the airline with component support for 40 Boeing 737-700/800s.

SR Technics says in as statement the 10-year contract for component support is worth $25 million.

The contract covers “SR Technics’ full component services range [and] it is the first time JAL has contracted component services in such a comprehensive manner to an external provider”, says SR Technics, adding that it will hold components “in stores established specifically for JAL in Japan”.

This contract begins 1 July and covers “JAL’s fleet of 40 next generation 737s”, it adds.

SR Technics also says it has worked with JAL in the past and the two, for example, have previously exchanged maintenance work such as airframe and engine maintenance and component repair.

JAL itself is a maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation in its own right but in recent years it has been outsourcing some heavy maintenance work to China in an effort to cut costs.

SR Technics was formerly part of Swissair but is now an independent company controlled by three investment groups from the United Arab Emirates which are working to grow the business by, for example, generating more business in Asia.
