Portable in-flight entertainment (IFE) manufacturer digEcor has reached a new agreement with Belgian operator Jetairfly, which plans to feature digEcor's newest handheld devices on several of its Boeing 767-300s.
The digEplayer XLP (extra long play) will replace the digEplayer 5500, which Jetairfly will retire as its previous three-year contract with digEcor expires.
"The new program will launch later this month and is substantially larger than the discontinued 5500 program", Jetairfly IFE Manager Emmanuel Van Damme says in a statement.
The new device's extended battery life was part of the appeal, he adds.
DigEplayer XLPs have a 16-hour battery life compared to the 10-hour plus battery life of digEplayer 5500s.
Jetairfly plans to offer the players free to comfort class passengers. The carrier's economy passengers will be able to rent the players for a fee, which digEcor says "greatly helps offset the program costs".
