The crash of a Kam Air Boeing 737-200 during a snowstorm, killing all 104 people on board while operating a domestic flight in Afghanistan on 3 February, is believed to be the country's worst ever civil aviation accident.
The aircraft was operating between Herat and Kabul but was not cleared to land at the capital due to snowstorms and crashed before it could divert to another airport. The wreckage was spotted at the peak of a 3,000m (11,000ft) mountain, 30km (20 miles) southeast of Kabul. Kam Air is a privately owned carrier that launched services late in 2003. It operates a Boeing 767-200ER and Antonov An-24s, as well as the 737, both domestically and internationally.
