Kenya Airways chief executive Titus Naikuni has only one requirement when it comes to buying new aircraft: "Value for money is all I'm looking for."
He dropped into Le Bourget yesterday with a crowd of tour group customers and press aboard the airline's latest Boeing 777-200ER. On 20 June the airline will take delivery of its third 777.
Within two months, Kenya Airways is aiming to select a widebody type for a further fleet upgrade as its seeks to replace its 767s, says Naikuni. He is looking at ordering more 777s and at the 787, but stresses the door is not closed to Airbus either. "If Boeing give me a good deal then I'll stick with them, if they don't, I'll move," he says.
Naikuni will order whatever aircraft he feels will continue to keep the airline healthy and profitable.
"We've got to stop suppliers driving this industry," he says. Kenya Airways is aiming to take delivery of its new aircraft in 2008-9.
