Kuwait Airways is intending to lease a long-haul and short-haul aircraft from June as an interim measure to increase capacity.
It is seeking either an Airbus A330/A340 or Boeing 777 aircraft which would operate routes to cities including Geneva, Casablanca, Amman and Damascus.
The flag-carrier is also searching for a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 to use on such services as Islamabad, Lahore, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
It has invited suppliers to provide the jets and plans to make a selection before the first week of May.
Kuwait Airways had been planning a fleet renewal but this scheme was abandoned after the airline failed to secure approval for the plan.
Timing of the fleet renewal became entangled with the schedule for the airline’s privatisation and Kuwait Airways subsequently indicated that it would consider leasing aircraft in the near term to address capacity requirements.
