Lufthansa Technik will establish Boeing 787 base maintenance capabilities at its Irish facility in Shannon.

The German MRO group says the Shannon site is investing a multi-million euro sum to train staff and to modify its hangar in order handle 787 heavy checks from later this year.

Support will include modifications, interior refurbishment, external paint repairs, airworthiness directive implementation, specialised inspections, and a "full range of maintenance services", notes LHT

Today, LHT Shannon services 737s, 757s, 767s and Airbus A320-family types.

The site specialises in aircraft checks for the leasing companies.

It states the establishment of 787 support capabilities represents a "sustainable addition" to current airframe MRO activities.
