Lufthansa Technik intends to restructure its German line maintenance operations in a bid to cut the unit's costs by 25%.
The MRO says staff consultations will take place over the coming months.
Its line maintenance division has a staff of around 4,000, three-quarters of whom are located at the parent carrier's main base in Frankfurt.
"Aircraft and their components become ever more modern and require less maintenance," notes LHT. "In order to safeguard employment and market share, we need to increase the number of aircraft under [line maintenance] service from around 1,300 to more than 2,000 in 2025."
It adds: "This growth programme also includes cost savings in order to service, in particular, low-cost airlines."
LHT last year reached an agreement with employee representatives on efficiency measures within engine MRO operations at its Hamburg headquarters, including productivity improvements and a gradual one-third staff reduction to 1,100 employees in 2026.
Earlier this year, LHT closed its last remaining aircraft overhaul line in Hamburg, in an effort to raise efficiency.
