Lufthansa Group has disclosed that over the course of 2016's first half it spent €885 million ($990 million) on 26 aircraft deliveries plus overhauls and pre-delivery payments.

The 26 jets comprised five Boeing 777s, one Airbus A330, one A321, 18 A320s and one Bombardier CSeries airliner.

Lufthansa typically finances its new aircraft through its cash reserves before refinancing them at a later date, often through Japanese operating leases with call options.

The German airline group incurred first-half impairment charges of €51 million related to four Airbus A340-600s and seven Boeing 737-300s held for sale.
