Malindo Air has named Mushafiz Mustafa Bakri its new chief executive, and he will succeed Chandran Rama Muthy on 23 September.

The carrier says Muthy will take on the role of group strategic director at Lion Air Group, which owns a 49% stake in Malindo.

Muthy will oversee new developments and strategic directors at the five group carriers: Batik Air, Lion Air, Wings Air, Malindo Air and Thai Lion Air. He is also tasked with setting in place financial management systems and developing alternative business streams.

Mushafiz is currently a director of safety, security and quality at Thai Lion Air. He joined Malindo in 2013 as a pilot before being seconded to the Thai low-cost airline later that same year.

Malindo did not specify if Muthy will move to Lion Air Group's headquarters in Jakarta, stressing only that he will remain the airline's shareholder. Cirium's data indicates that Sky One Investors owns 46% in Malindo, followed by Malaysia's National Aerospace and Defence Industries with a 5% stake.
