Marshall Aerospace and Defence has disclosed a plan to relocate operations from its UK base at Cambridge airport by 2030.
Chief executive Alistair McPhee states that "a move to new, purpose-built facilities will afford us a fantastic opportunity to fulfil our true potential as a business".
The company is at the early stages of a search for "the right airfield location", he indicates, noting that the site will be required to have "the necessary space and flexibility to support our planned growth" and be "close enough to Cambridge to enable us to retain and attract talent".
While he describes the selection of a location as "a complex and time-consuming task", a trio of preferred options have already been identified: Cranfield, Duxford and Wyton.
"We will work with all three locations over the coming months to further assess their feasibility," adds McPhee.
He stresses that Marshall Aerospace and Defence remains committed to investing some £30 million ($39 million) over the next five years to upgrade its existing infrastructure.
Marshall Group has informed local authorities and "other key stakeholders" that to finance the move of its aerospace and defence division, it intends to put its site forward for development "as part of the next [Cambridge] Local Plan from 2030".
