MD Helicopters has appointed Indes Aviation as an authorised sales representative for Romania and Bulgaria. The move is intended to give the US airframer a foothold in the lucrative central and eastern European market for its family of single- and twin-engined helicopters.

Bucharest-based Indes will also provide maintenance, servicing and refurbishment for civil and miliary owners of the MD line-up. "We see great potential in the central and eastern European market and this new alliance represents an important strategic step towards consolidating the MD presence in this region," it says.

Meanwhile, MD Helicopters has sold an MD 902 Explorer to China's Jiang Su Huaxi Group. The twin-engined helicopter is scheduled for delivery in September and will be used for corporate transport and tourist sightseeing within the Huaxi village, Jiangyin city area of China.

The Mesa, Arizona-based airframer has also handed over a fourth refurbished Explorer to the Mexican navy. The 10-year-old aircraft have been converted from "an armed" to a search and rescue configuration.
