Biggin Hill airport is aiming to entice more Middle East customers to fly into the south London airport, as it prepares to enjoy longer operating hours.

“We’ve had approval to stay open longer – it’s an absolute miracle!” says Andy Patsalides, London Biggin Hill airport marketing manager.

The airport currently operates between 07:30 and 21:00 during weekdays and 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends. From next year, Biggin will be operational from 06:30 and 23:00 weekdays and up until 22:00 at weekends.

To boost Biggin Hill’s appeal as a gateway to London, the airport introduced a “heli shuttle” service that serves both London heliports, which has been a great success, says Patsalides. “We’ve operated over 1,000 flights in 14 months,” he says.

The airport is at MEBAA to drum up more local business, says Patsalides. “Middle Eastern business flights tend to go North London – Luton. Our share is very small but we have no scheduled flights and no slot restrictions. We also offer discrete handling so no one knows you are flying into the airport.”

Meanwhile, Bombardier’s new Biggin Hill MRO operation opened in November and is already busy, Patsalides says. “We’ve just broken ground on a second hangar, which will be ready by October 2017 and capable of taking six Bombardier Global 7000s or Gulfstream 650s.”
