Investigators examining the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 have ruled out a reported sighting of an unidentified aircraft over the Maldives.

Malaysian acting transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein said, during a press conference on 19 March, that authorities had looked into the sighting and that the reports were “not true”.

One local Maldives publication had carried reports that eyewitnesses on a southern atoll had seen a large aircraft overfly at low altitude on 8 March, hours after flight MH370 disappeared.
