Balkan carriers Air Serbia and Montenegro Airlines have sealed a codeshare agreement aimed at broadening the range of destinations available to passengers.

The pact will allow Montenegro Airlines to put its designator code on Air Serbia flights from Belgrade to 32 destinations – among them Podgorica, the Montenegrin capital, and the city of Tivat.

Air Serbia – which is part-owned by Middle Eastern carrier Etihad Airways – will put its own code on Montenegro Airlines services between Podgorica and Rome, as well as the links from Tivat and Podgorica to Belgrade.

Montenegro Airlines chair Daliborka Pejovic says the agreement represents an “extraordinary opportunity” for the carrier, which has “opened the door” to join other Etihad Airways partnership carriers.

Pejovic adds that the deal also offers the chance to find a strategic partner for Montenegro Airlines, which the government has been trying to privatise.
