German engine specialist MTU has opened a new logistics facility at its maintenance site in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin.
MTU says the new building was necessary as a result of growth in activity at the site in recent years.
Between 2016 and 2018, the number of employees grew by more than a quarter, to 838, while the number of engines handled by the maintenance facility increased 12%, MTU says.
The Munich-based engine subassembly manufacturer and MRO provider invested €11.5 million ($13 million) in the project and received €1.6 million in support from the state of Brandenburg.
Operations from other logistics facilities will be transferred to the new site by September.
MTU's Ludwigsfelde facility is used to service General Electric CF34s, Pratt & Whitney Canada engines and industrial gas turbines, and to repair components on Pratt & Whitney PW1000G-series engines.
