GE Aviation revealed more details of its TechX powerplant for Bombardier's new Global 7000 and 8000 models at the show this morning. The new business jet engine will incorporate technologies from GE's commercial and military engines, developed with the company's annual $1 billion investment in research and development.
GE says the TechX engine will offer 8% lower specific fuel consumption than current business jet engines in the 10,000-20,000lb-thrust (44.5-88.9kN) class, and meet environmental requirements with a 50% margin.
"This selection significantly expands GE's business and general aviation product portfolio and enables us to bring GE's advanced technology to this business aviation segment," said Brad Mottier, vice president and general manager of GE Aviation's business and general aviation unit.
The TechX engine will produce around 16,500lb of thrust and incorporate a composite fan case and front fan blisk designed to reduce weight and lower cabin noise and vibration.
