European regulators have found no immediate evidence that the falsification of data from Japanese seat manufacturer Koito Industries poses a threat to Airbus aircraft.
Koito's admission last month that it fabricated the results from safety testing prompted intervention by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the US FAA, affecting the delivery of Koito-equipped Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
But while EASA is continuing its evaluation of airworthiness issues, it states that a preliminary review of an Airbus risk-assessment plan reveals "no immediate threat to safety of flight" for aircraft fitted with Koito seats.
EASA says, however, that this initial conclusion "does not preclude" its issuing an airworthiness directive at a later date, if necessary.
