Arianespace has added to its launch manifest, by signing to fly an Italian Space Agency (ASI) payload on its Vega rocket from French Guiana next year.

The flight will orbit a multi-spectral Earth observation satellite, PRISMA (PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa). Built by OHB Italia with Leonardo payloads, PRISMA will weigh about 900kg at launch and be placed in to 615km Sun-synchronous orbit – a typical Vega mission.

PRISMA data will be useful for applications including environmental monitoring, resources management, identification and classification of crops, the fight against pollution and homeland security.
