Iranian carrier Zagros Airlines has tentatively signed for the Airbus A330neo, intending to take eight of the type as part of an agreement for 28 re-engined jets.
The airline has agreed a memorandum of understanding for the A330neos plus 20 A320neo aircraft.
If the order is finalised it would mark another key deal for Airbus following the lifting of nuclear-related sanctions and clearance for Iranian operators to obtain new-build Western types.
Airbus has confirmed the Zagros memorandum during the Paris air show. No engine selection has been disclosed, although the A330neo is only available with the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000.
Zagros operates A320-family jets, mainly fitted with CFM International CFM56s, but also has a number of Boeing MD-80s in a fleet of around 20 aircraft.
"The performance, operational and cost efficiencies of Airbus aircraft was the selling point for us to order [them]," says chief executive Seyed Abdolreza Mousavi.
Airbus has already started supplying new-build A330 and A320-family jets to Iran Air.
