SIA Engineering and GE Aviation will establish a joint venture to maintain GE90 and GE9X engines.

GE will hold the controlling 51% stake in the new company, with SIAEC the remaining 49%. The company's establishment would also be "subject to finalisation of the definitive agreements and receipt of required regulatory approvals," says SIAEC in a stock exchange statement.

The company will maintain engines for the Singapore Airlines group and third-party clients.

"This partnership with GE, which is a significant strategic move for SIAEC, adds to our growing portfolio of joint ventures with the world’s leading aircraft and engine manufacturers," adds SIAEC's chief executive Png Kim Chiang.

In February, Singapore Airlines signed a letter of intent to order 20 GE9X-powered Boeing 777-9s, while it also operates 27 GE90-powered 777-300ERs.

SIAEC also has engine overhaul joint ventures with Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney.
