In-flight communications industry veteran Bill Peltola has been appointed director of business development for AeroMechanical Services' FLYHT brand.

Based in Calgary, AeroMechanical Services is a leading provider of real-time data communications for the aerospace industry. The company's solutions and services are primarily sold under the FLYHT name.

Peltola, who headed up Aircell's sales and marketing for several years, will continue to be based in Boulder, Colorado.

He tells ATI and Flight Global: "AeroMechanical Services has some exciting things going on. We provide full service [including avionics and ground network] solutions, currently to about 30 customers - mostly airlines - for monitoring fuel and other operational parameters, and the system has the capability to monitor virtually any parameter available on the aircraft's data buses.

"It records these parameters in full detail, but can also look for exceedances and send messages to the ground, including in email or text message format. I think monitoring in-flight entertainment and connectivity system BITE status could be good candidates."

Peltola says the system also has the capability to stream FDR data to the ground when triggered by exceedances or the flight crew. He reveals the firm will be doing a demonstration of this functionality in the coming weeks "with one of our airline customers".
