Epic Aircraft has revealed at AirVenture Oshkosh its plans to install a Ballistic Recovery Systems (BRS) whole-aircraft parachute in its single-engine Victory Jet, which made its debut at the show.
The parachute will be designed and developed by BRS under a strategic partnership with Spain's CIMSA Ingenieria de Sistem.
The alliance was formed by the two companies in June with the aim, they say, of developing and manufacturing parachute systems for new and existing markets.
Epic's Williams International FJ-33-4A-powered Victory Jet made its first flight late last month. The all-composite aircraft is designed to carry up to five passengers to 28,000ft (8,540m) at at 320kt (590km/h).
"The BRS parachute will allow the jet aircraft to float safely back to earth in the unlikely event of an in-fight emergency," says BRS vice-president of sales John Gilmore.
"The consumer is now telling the aircraft companies the level of safety they expect in aircraft and the companies are responding," he adds.
