The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor has made its Australian air show debut at Avalon 2011.

Two examples from the 525th Sqn, tail numbers 108 and 115, are on static display only.

A US Air Force official says the air show invited the F-22 to participate. Now on deployment in Japan, the 525th Sqn was able to send two of its aircraft to Australia.

The F-22s are under heavy security that comprises teams from the USAF, Victorian state police and a private firm, as well as attack dogs, a show official says.

Another of the USAF's stealth aircraft, the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit strategic bomber, was also scheduled to be on display, but is not at the show.
