PICTURE: BelugaXL emerges with its Trent engines

Airbus has rolled out its new BelugaXL high-capacity transporter with its Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines installed.

The aircraft, MSN1824, is set to commence flight-testing during the summer.

Airbus has yet to fit the winglets to the A330-based aircraft. Its construction and modification building, able to house two BelugaXL aircraft, is too narrow for winglet installation.

The aircraft, one of five to be constructed, will have a 51t payload capability and is designed to accommodate components – such as pairs of A350 wings – which are beyond the handling capacity of the current A300-600ST fleet.

Two BelugaXLs will be delivered to Airbus logistics operator ATI next year, with all five scheduled to be in service in 2022.
