Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) took delivery of its first Boeing 787 aircraft on 3 October, becoming the first Southeast Asian operator of the type.

The carrier will first deploy the aircraft on Bandar Seri Begawan-Singapore services and other regional routes from 18 October, before moving to the Bandar Seri Begawan-Dubai-London Heathrow route on 1 December. It also plans to extend the 787 operations to Melbourne in the first quarter of 2014, says Boeing.

"This exciting addition keeps passenger comfort and high quality service at the heart of our airline and is yet another effort to ensure our fleet remains modern and offers peaceful and tranquil travel," says RBA’s deputy chairman Dermot Mannion. "As a small airline we offer truly personal service, delighting our passengers with an authentic Bruneian grace to enrich their journeys."

Flightglobal Pro data shows that the carrier has four more 787-8s on order. It operates a fleet of six Airbus A320 family aircraft and four Boeing 777-200ERs.
