PICTURE: SilkAir receives its first Boeing 737 Max 8

Singapore Airlines' regional arm SilkAir has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 Max 8.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the aircraft is registered 9V-MBA (MSN 44246).

SilkAir tells FlightGlobal that the CFM International LEAP-1B powered aircraft seats 156 passengers in two classes: 12 business and 144 in economy. They will first be deployed on the Singapore-Hiroshima route from 30 October, as well as other destinations including Bengaluru, Cairns, Darwin, Kathmandu, and Hyderabad.

The airline adds that the aircraft arrived in Singapore on 1 October, with two more expected by year end.

Fleets Analyzer also indicates that SilkAir has orders for 37 of the Max 8s, with deliveries scheduled until 2021.

SilkAir is the third carrier in Southeast Asia to operate the 737 Max 8 after Malaysia's Malindo Air and Indonesia's Lion Air.
