Airbus has delivered China Southern Airlines's first A380 during a handover ceremony at its Toulouse headquarters.

China Southern Airlines, which has five of the type on order, is configuring the jet with 506 seats, comprising eight first-class suites, 70 lie-flat business-class seats and 428 economy seats.

The aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, and will initially be used on high-density domestic routes between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

China Southern chairman Si Xianmin said: "This most spacious and modern aircraft enables us to offer our passengers world-standard comfort on our flights.

China Southern is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. It becomes the seventh carrier to take the A380.
