UK budget carrier EasyJet has today taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo, powered by CFM International Leap-1A engines, at a ceremony in Toulouse.

The re-engined narrowbody, configured in a 186-seat layout, also represents the airline's 300th A320-family aircraft delivery.

EasyJet's first A320neo (below) will be based at London Luton airport and operate commercial flights from 16 June, to Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Madrid.

"The A320neo is a major step change for our fleet efficiency and will provide a cost-per-seat saving of up to 7% over the current A320, which itself has a cost saving benefit of up to 8% over the A319, and this benefit will enable EasyJet to continue to offer our famous low fares helping to connect people across Europe for work and play," states EasyJet's chief Carolyn McCall.

"With 130 Neo aircraft on order, we are also Europe's largest customer for this revolutionary new plane and really looking forward to operating the Neo and realising its cost, customer, carbon and noise benefits."

The first A320neo for EasyJet is also the 300th Airbus single-aisle delivered to the airline

In May, EasyJet announced its conversion of 30 A320neo orders to A321neos configured with 235 seats, of which deliveries are to begin in July 2018. The Luton-based carrier's original commitment to the Neo dates to a framework agreement struck with Airbus in 2013.
