Investigations have commenced after an Antonov An-26 was badly damaged in a hard landing at Belaya Gora airport in Siberia.

The Polar Airlines aircraft (RA-26660) was conducting the scheduled PI203 service from Yakutsk, says the airport’s operator.

Images from the scene show the aircraft came to rest on its fuselage underside, missing the blades of its starboard propeller.

Polar Airlines says the aircraft had sustained a “rough” landing after an approach carried out in bad weather.

None of the 27 passengers and six crew members was injured, the airline states, but the aircraft was damaged.

It adds that a commission of inquiry is being established to probe the accident. The airport operator says the event occurred at 14:38 local time on 11 October.
