Qantas will increase the frequency of its upcoming Brisbane-Tokyo Narita service as part of a wider boost of Queensland flights by the carrier and its budget subsidiary Jetstar.

The additional Brisbane-Narita flights will take it from a four-times weekly to a daily frequency from 1 August. The services will be operated by Airbus A330s.

Qantas had previously said that it would use the additional three weekly slots at Narita – made possible by switching its Sydney flights to operate from Haneda – to launch a new service from another Australian city.

On the domestic front, Qantas will also launch a twice-weekly service from Melbourne to Hamilton Island on 27 June. It will replace Jetstar’s four-times weekly services on the route, and will be operated by Boeing 737-800s.

Jetstar will also commence a thrice weekly service from Melbourne to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) on 25 June. The services will be operated by A320s.

Flightglobal’s Innovata networks data service shows that Qantas will compete with Virgin Australia on the Hamilton Island service, while it will be the only operator on the Whitsunday Coast route.
