The Yak-130 advanced trainer was a disappointing no-show at Le Bourget, as the aircraft was still undergoing state certification tests.

So far Yakovlev has built two examples, with a third in production and due to start tests in November. State testing should be completed in 2006.

The Russian air force has placed an initial order for 12 of the type for basic and advanced pilot training. Four will be built next year and the remaining eight in 2007. It has committed to purchase at least 200 in total.

Yakovlev predicts significant export potential for the Yak-130 and believes there is demand for more than 1,000 aircraft.

The Yak-130 will now be demonstrated on the ground and in flight at MAKS 2005, the Russian airshow.
