Boeing has approved Italian seat manufacturer Geven as a line-fit supplier of economy seats on the 787 programme.
The agreement was preceded by a "long" assessment and qualification process by Boeing, which covered Geven's entire operations and concentrated, in particular, on engineering and manufacturing capabilities, the Naples-based company says.
Managing director Alberto Veneruso states that Geven has "invested a lot into expanding its production capabilities and is ready for new challenges".
He says: "We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with Boeing and its customers."
In 2018, the US airframer established a joint venture with automotive seat supplier Adient to address supply constraints in the aircraft seating sector.
The jointly owned company, Adient Aerospace, revealed in April that Hawaiian Airlines had become its first customer, for the supply of lie-flat business seats on the carrier's on-order 787 fleet.
Boeing has separately formed an alliance with US manufacturer Lift by EnCore for the supply of economy seats for 737s and 787s.
