PIA has deployed its second ATR 42-500 and has five more on order

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has stopped using military Lockheed C-130 military transports to ferry passengers, after deploying its second ATR 42-500 - which has just been delivered from Toulouse - on domestic routes in the north of the country.

The airline was forced to use Pakistan air force C-130s for passenger services after its Fokker F27 fleet was grounded in July following a fatal crash.

The move also prompted PIA to transfer Boeing 737s from international to domestic services.

The arrival of its second new ATR has eased the pressure on its domestic fleet, and it has five more ATR 42s on order for delivery by May.
