Lessors that have ordered the CSeries remain confident in the product despite the low numbers of airline customers, says Bombardier.

Speaking in an interview with Flightglobal on the sidelines of the Singapore air show, senior vice-president commercial Colin Bole says that lessors are “very comfortable with the product.”

“With the lessors, as well as airline customers we have absolutely convinced them,” he adds.

Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer shows that a total of 89 CSeries aircraft have been ordered by Lease Corporation International, Macquarie AirFinance and Ilyushin Finance. Falko Regional Aircraft and CDB Leasing also have letters of intent for 24 and 30 aircraft, respectively.

Bole explains that it is working with the lessor customers to get more airline customer commitments, for both owned and leased aircraft, but admits that it has been an uphill battle.

“Let’s be honest, launching a new product against two goliath competitors is challenging. Not only do you have to sell production, you have to convince the airlines to make changes from the incumbents,” he says.
