South African Airways has reported a full-year net profit of R782 million ($109.4 million) for fiscal 2010/11, a 77% improvement over the restated net profit of R442 million recorded in the previous financial year.

The carrier's operating profit increased by 66% to R807 million.

Revenue grew 6% to R18 billion, while operating expenses rose by 5%.

SAA attributes its improved results to "improved internal governance structures, tight cost control, improved efficiencies within the business, as well as product enhancement and innovation".

The airline plans to focus on "substantially growing" its African network going forward.
