US authorities are screening a Thai Airways International Airbus A340-500 at Los Angeles International Airport following a bomb threat on the flight.

The aircraft, registration HS-TLC, landed at Los Angeles at 20:51hr yesterday after a flight from Bangkok.

During the flight, a passenger found a bomb threat note in the lavatory and alerted the cabin crew, says the carrier.

"US federal authorities were then informed and took immediate preparatory procedures for such situations upon the aircraft landing in Los Angeles," says Thai.

"At the moment, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Transportation Security Administration and Los Angeles World Airports Authority are conducting a security screening of all baggage, passengers, crew, and the aircraft at Los Angeles International Airport."

The aircraft will proceed on the return flight to Bangkok after it is cleared for release by the authorities, says the airline.

There were 171 passengers and 18 crew members on board the aircraft, it adds.
