The Ugandan army has signed a contract to purchase two Orbiter 2 unmanned air vehicles from Israeli manufacturer Aeronautics Defense Systems.

Offering an endurance of 3.5h, the Orbiter 2 has a 1m (3.28ft)-long fuselage and a 3m wingspan. The design is a proven system that last year was selected by the Israeli navy for deployment from some of its combat ships.

Aeronautics is meanwhile developing an Orbiter 3 UAV, which will have a larger volume fuselage and a 3.6m wingspan. To be capable of carrying a 3kg (6.6lb) electro-optical payload, the design has a planned endurance of more than 10h.
