United sets 12 December launch for Dulles-Lagos

Star Alliance member United Airlines has set a 12 December launch date for new daily service between Washington Dulles and Lagos, Nigeria.

The flights will be operated with Boeing 767 aircraft, says United.

Lagos represents United's second destination on the African continent. The carrier introduced service from Dulles to Accra, Ghana on 20 June.

Jeff Smisek, president of United Continental Holdings - the umbrella for merged carriers United and Continental Airlines - says he believes the new Lagos service "will facilitate stronger commercial and cultural ties between the United States and Nigeria, while providing new options and convenience for travellers on both sides of the Atlantic".

At present, no scheduled operator provides nonstop service between Dulles and Lagos, according to Innovata.
