UPS has confirmed that one of its Boeing 747-400 aircraft has crashed on takeoff from Dubai to Cologne.

Two crewmembers were on board, but UPS states: "At this time we have not confirmed any casualties."

The company has dispatched its own team to the crash site.

UPS says it plans to release additional information as it becomes available.

Preliminary reports indicated the aircraft crashed on a main road near the city.

Flightglobal's ACAS database shows that the aircraft, 571UP, was built in 2007.

UPS airline and international operational manager Bob Lekites says: ""This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause."
