Spanish budget carrier Vueling has approved a deal to lease three additional Airbus A320-family aircraft, to be added to its fleet before the end of the year.
This is in addition to the six aircraft that the company ordered in 2010 for service introduction between April 2010 and June 2011.
Vueling says it will add a total of nine aircraft this year, taking its fleet to 42 and representing an investment of around €110 million ($147 million).
Six of the aircraft will be used to strengthen the projected growth plan for 2011, which will focus primarily on expansion at its main base in Barcelona, together with airports it serves in Spain and its two new international bases in Amsterdam and Toulouse.
The three additional aircraft, which will come from lessors, will be used to reduce the average age of the fleet to less than six years by 2012, says Vueling.
Of the nine new aircraft, eight will be A320s and one will be an A319.
