The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has started construction of an assembly plant in Shanghai for its C919 and ARJ21 aircraft.
The facility, to be built over 2.67 million sq m of land to the south of Shanghai Pudong airport, will be operational from 2012, says Comac.
By 2016, the assembly plant is expected to produce 20 C919s and 50 ARJ21s a year, it adds.
The plant will be equipped with assembling, testing and delivery facilities, says Comac.
It aims to have the C919's first test flight in 2014 and entry into service in 2016, while the first ARJ21 is due to be delivered in late 2010 to China's Kunpeng Airlines.
