A programme to serially remanufacture Cessna 172 Skyhawks announced at July’s AirVenture show has got off to a strong start.
Since launching the scheme at Oshkosh, Wichita-based Yingling Aviation has bought five used aircraft and is in the process of finishing the first, says Jerry Pickett, vice president of customer programmes. An initial converted 172, shown at AirVenture, has been already acquired by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
“We haven’t signed any orders yet, but there is a lot of excitement and interest in the programme, and people are asking us whether we can rebuild aircraft to spec,” says Pickett. Yingling is offering the remanufactured aircraft from $159,000.
Although there are “hundreds” of Skyhawks in service, Yingling is interested in those that have flown fewer than 8,000h and have “a complete log book”, he says. “Other than that, we don’t mind buying aircraft that need a paint job and a new interior.”
