NORWEGIAN helicopter operator Norsk Helikopter has won a lucrative transportation contract with Phillips Petroleum, displacing former monopoly Norwegian North Sea operator Helikopter Services.
The deal covers transportation to the Ekofisk field, from 1 September, when the existing deal with Helikopter Services expires - one of the company's largest single contracts. In 1997 and 1998, when the Ekofisk II field will come on line, the operations will make up to 30% of the total Norwegian Continental Shelf transport volume.
Norsk Helikopter, established in 1993, is owned one-third each by Bristow Helicopters and local companies Andreas Ugland and Leif Hoegh.
The company will use up to six Eurocopter Super Pumas for the Phillips contract.
