KATE SARSFIELD / LONDON

Canadian general aviation aircraft manufacturer OMF Aircraft plans to restart production in May next year despite the financial collapse of its German parent OMF GmbH last week. OMF Aircraft, which was 70% owned by the Trollenhagen-based company, was established earlier this year in Three Rivers, Quebec to manufacture, distribute and support OMF's light piston single line for the North American market.

OMF Aircraft says it will reorganise as a standalone company and plans to establish a design and manufacturing capability at Quebec, establish a North American supply base and transfer type certification for the aircraft from Germany to Canada. OMF Aircraft president Paul Costanzo says the company is seeking $5 million to complete the restructuring.
