Cathay Pacific’s first Airbus A350-1000 has rolled out of the paint shop in Toulouse.

The Hong Kong carrier expects to take delivery of the first of its 20 -1000s on order in the middle of the year.

It adds that the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-powered type will form an “important part” of the airline’s long-haul operations. The aircraft will also be deployed on its new route to Washington Dulles in September, which will be the airline's longest flight.

Cathay already has 22 A350-900s in service, Flight Fleets Analyzer shows. It is scheduled to add 79 new aircraft to its fleet through to 2024, comprising the 20 -1000s, six -900s, 32 A321neos and 21 Boeing 777-9s.
