Swiss aircraft outfitter Jet Aviation Basel has secured the first ever contract to complete a VIP interior for a Boeing 787-9 client.

The identity of the client remains undisclosed although it has been confirmed that the order comes from the Gulf region.

Jet adds that it has completed several significant projects for this same client including the interior of a VVIP wide-body aircraft within the last decade.

Jet Aviation says the green aircraft will be delivered to its Basel facility in 2011 and take an estimated 15-18 months to complete.

“Our Basel engineering team is working closely with Boeing to become familiar with the aircraft’s advanced design and new composite material,” said Norbert Marx, Jet’s senior vice president and general manager.

Jet Aviation has been working on an interior package for the Boeing 787 for over two and a half years and in 2005, partnered with yacht and corporate aircraft interior designer Peder Eidsgaard to create concepts for the next generation of corporate aircraft.

Its Basel facility was also the first completions centre to present Eidsgaard’s full interior design of a Boeing 787-9 at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition 2006 in Geneva.
