Start-up carrier People Express will launch its first flights on 30 June, to be operated by Vision Airlines.

The two carriers have a one-year wet lease agreement for the scheduled flights from Newport News (Virginia) to Newark, Boston and Pittsburgh, followed by West Palm Beach, Atlanta, St Petersburg and New Orleans.

Las Vegas-based Vision will operate the PEOPLExpress-branded flights on Boeing 737-400s painted with People Express' livery.

While People Express withdrew its application for an operating certificate with US authorities earlier this month, the airline tells Flightglobal that it still plans to become a certificated carrier in its own right.

"I wanted us to get started right away, and that is why we did this marketing arrangement with Vision," People Express chief executive Jeff Erickson tells Flightglobal.
