Qantas will operate one of its five daily Sydney-Auckland services using Boeing 787-9s between 4 December 2019 and 28 March 2020.

Cirium schedules data shows that the 236-seat jets will replace 737-800s used on a daily service, increasing capacity by 63 seats each flight.

As the 787s also feature premium economy seating, it will represent the first time that Qantas has offered that product on the Tasman market.

"The flights are an opportunity for Qantas to showcase the 787 across the Tasman before more Dreamliners arrive and begin operating across the airline’s long-haul international network in 2020," the airline adds.

Qantas has eight 787s in its fleet, with six more due for delivery between October 2019 and the second half of 2020.

The jets mostly operate on long-haul flights, including its daily Perth-London service, and from Melbourne and Brisbane to Los Angeles.
